Steve Brooks and Danny Creden Chill with Frostbite VII Victories at Mountain
Nick Kreizer and Keith Smashalot Notch Demo Derby Wins
In honor of the Callavini family, who have been the lease holders and promoters at Mountain Speedway for the last fourteen seasons, the tracks annual “Frostbite” Enduros were held Saturday afternoon. Prior to the day ending fireworks display, Dirt Modified ace Danny Creden of White Plains, NY walked away with the 100-lap Four Cylinder Enduro. With temperatures hovering zero and with five inches of snow on the speedway, things really heated up on the track when the 6/8-Cylinders took the stage. In what seemed like a rolling demo, Steve Brooks of Long Island, NY took the checkers for his first enduro win at the track. A pair of demo derbies was held. Nick Kreizer and Keith Smashalot ended up the victors and brought home the hardware. Full Story
Mountain Speedway Crowns Champions at 14th Annual Awards Ceremony
In its 14th season with Hazleton’s Joe Callavini at the helm, Mountain Speedway held its annual awards banquet Saturday evening at Genetti’s Inn & Suites in Hazleton, PA.
   The event was special in sorts and not only because each of the divisional champions and their competitors were honored, but also because the event marked the final awards ceremony for Mountain Speedway, which will be under new management next season.
   Hundreds filled the banquet hall, including crew and friends and family members of racers that competed at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval in St. Johns, PA during the 2013-racing season.  Along with the presentation of special awards, the end of the year celebration was held to recognize the top points finishers each of the track’s divisions.
   Speedway Announcers Gene Ostrowski and Larry Spencer III were the emcees for the ceremony and spoke about the past season and focused on the positive that came out of a troublesome year for the track. They continued by thanking the drivers, families and crewmembers for not only supporting the speedway, but also for supporting short track racing in general. Full Story
Scott Riggleman and Scott Adams Close with Mountain Enduro Wins
Riggleman and Larry Spencer III Take Track Titles
Round No. 7 of the Mountain Madness Enduro Series kicked off Saturday at Mountain Speedway and many enduro drivers took the opportunity to compete in the annual “Halloween Screamer”, which was the final points event of the season. With double points on the line, it was expected to be a competitive show, and that it was. When it was all said and done, Scott Riggleman of Manchester, NJ brought home the 150-lap 6/8-Cylinder victory and Scott Adams of Lake Ariel wrapped up the Four Cylinder win. Along with his victory, Riggleman also clinched his first divisional title at the track, as did Larry Spencer III in Four Cylinder competition. Full Story
Matt Hirschman Takes First “King of the Mountain” Sweep
The “King of the Mountain” was the final points paying event of the season at Mountain Speedway and to put it lightly, all of the drivers let everything hang out Sunday afternoon through the evening with hopes of taking the crown in the 14th annual event. When the speedy dry settled Matt Hirschman of Northampton emerged from victory lane as the Sport Modified winner, thus sweeping the weekend in Modified competition. For the first time in his career, Matt Wentz of Lehighton bested the Street Stock field for the $2,000 prize and his first crown in the event and John Banashefski of Wilkes-Barre wired the Four Cylinder feature for the victory. Brendon Bock of Franklin Square, NY bested the INEX Legends drivers for the win and Ryan Tidman ran from last to first to score the TQ Midget victory. Nick Baer of New Tripoli Scored the Pro-4 Victory. Full Story
