Rain threatened round #4 of the ABC Car Crushing Mountain Madness Enduro Series Sunday at Mountain Speedway.  However, after a few brief showers before hand, the enduro racing got underway in true enduro style.  In the end, Mark Spencer notched his first win in the 6/8-cylinder division and Dave Bentley, Jr. visited victory lane in the four-cylinder class.  Frank Katona was victorious in the trophy truck enduro.

Phil Lamonaco, Ed Brown, Jr. and Jeff Walls shared the front row for the start of the 100-lap 6/8-cylinder enduro event.  After leading the first two circuits, Lamonaco was overtaken by Dominic Ranieri.  Ranieri held the point until lap eight, when Joe Jentile overtook him in lapped traffic.

Mark Spencer of Nanticoke, PA began to move through the field.  He caught Jentile and completed a pass for the top spot on lap nineteen.  Although he dropped to second, Jentile stayed glued to Spencer’s back bumper, just waiting for the driver to make a mistake.

With twenty laps complete, Spencer remain in front of Jentile and Ranieri held third.  Lamonaco was fourth and Bob Wink worked his way into the top five.

The third of five red flags flew on lap twenty-seven when Jamie Pressley slammed into an unoccupied car in turn three.  Pressley was not injured, but was done for the day.  Ironically, the next red was displayed on the flowing lap when TJ Kapish, who was running in the top ten, rear ended a car driven by Bob Kulik, who was unable to get up to speed on the front stretch.  Both drivers climbed from their cars and returned to the pit area before green flag racing resumed.

Jentile regained the advantage over Spencer on lap forty-six, but Spencer fought back and into the lead twelve circuits later.  The duo exchanged the top spot two more times before Spencer drove off to victory for his first Mountain 6/8-cylinder enduro victory.  Jentile settled for second, with Ranieri, Lamonaco and Wink rounding out the top five.

Matt Mattern, Bobby Coco and Mark Foreman led the four-cylinder field down to the drop of the green flag in the 100-lap event.  Steve Petry worked around the outside of the leaders and took the top spot before a single lap was scored.

Pat Verwys started fifteenth on the grid, but quickly moved through traffic to take second only two laps into the event.

Verwys caught and passed Petry for the lead on lap fourteen, but his lead was short-lived.  Verwys had engine woes and retired from the race on lap thirty-four.  The exchange gave the top spot back to Petry.  Dave Bentley held second, with Harry Sager, Robert Fink and Mark Foreman rounding out the top five.

The only red flag of the race flew when Tom Stevens experienced problems and rolled his car onto its roof on the backstretch.  Sevens was able to walk away from the incident.

Green flag racing resumed and Petry appeared to have the car to beat, as he had an entire lap on the field.

That changed on lap seventy-nine when his car slowed on the speedway.  Petry hit the pits and never made a return to the track.  The change of events gave Bentley the top spot.  Foreman moved into the second spot, with Larry Spencer, Jr., Jack McElrath and Jimmy White, Jr. in the top five.

Bentley made no mistakes over the closing laps and drove off to his first win of the season over Foreman, McElrath, Spencer and White.

Frank Katona and Jeff Gregor battled side by side for a number of laps in the 15-lap trophy truck event.  Gregor grabbed the lead from the get-go, but Katona fought back and took the top spot on lap two.  Katona held on to notch the win with Gregor finishing as the runner-up.
The next Mountain Madness Enduro Series event is slated for Sunday, August 24th.  The 6/8-cylinders, 4-cylinders and trophy trucks will be in action.
