Without a cloud in the sky and in short track racing style, round number five of the ABC Car Crushing Mountain Madness Enduro Series took place Sunday afternoon at Mountain Speedway.  Joe “Millionaire” Jentile dominated the 6/8 cylinder 100 lap enduro en route to his first win of the season and Dave Bentley, Jr. extended his points lead after scoring his second straight four cylinder victory in the red flag free event.  Frank Katona held off Jeff Gregor and notched his second “trophy truck” win of the season.

Rob Pyle started first and led the twenty-eight strong field of four cylinders to the drop of the green flag in the 100-lap event.  Bobby Coco started fourth and quickly took the top spot before a single lap was scored.  Robert Fink moved into second, and then challenged Coco for the lead on lap seven.  Fink took the top spot and Coco responded with a little bumper tag, which forced Fink to lose a few positions.

With Coco in the lead and with ten laps into the race, Mark Foreman was second, followed by Jack McElrath, Dave Bentley, Jr. and Mike Ventura.

Bentley patiently moved closer to the front and challenged Coco for the lead, which he obtained on lap forty-five.  Coco slipped back to second, with Foreman, Steve Petry and McElrath in tow.

Petry worked into the second spot with approximately twenty laps remaining and Anthony Arcaro got by McElrath for fifth.  Meanwhile, Fink began to work back toward the front.

Bentley, who is also the current points leader, held on to score his second straight win of the season in the red flag free event over Foreman, Arcaro, Fink and McElrath.  Petry crossed the stripe in the second spot and did not make it through post race inspection.

Only a handful of “trophy trucks” took the green flag in the 15-lap truck event.  Frank Katona took the lead from Jeff Gregor on the start, but Gregor worked the high line around the speedway.  The duo battled side by side for nearly ten laps and swapped the lead on numerous occasions.  With a few laps remaining, Gregor got out of shape in turns one and two, which allowed Katona to pull off the victory by two truck lengths.  The win is Katona’s second straight trophy truck victory.

Thirty-two 6/8-cylinder enduro vehicles took the green flag in the 100-lap big car event.  Bobby Coco started on the pole and leapt out to the early lead.  Joe “Millionaire” Jentile started thirteenth reeled in Coco and then took the race lead on lap seven.

With a quarter of the race complete, Jentile continued to lead, over Phil Lamonaco, Dominic Ranieri, Mark Spencer and “the Maddawg”, Bob Wink.

T.J. Kapish was on a mission and after starting in the eighteenth spot he stormed into the fifth spot by the halfway mark.

As the laps wound down, Lamonaco began to fall back, but still retained his top five position.  Meanwhile, Jentile set a blistering pace, as there were only three cars remaining on the led lap, with thirty-three laps remaining.  With fourteen to go, Jentile put a lap on Spencer, who was running third.

With only a few laps remaining, Spencer got spun from the third spot.

In a dominating effort, Jentile notched his first victory of the season, over Ranieri, Kapish and Lamonaco.  Spencer rebounded from the earlier spin to finish fifth.

Update- Phil Lamonaco was disqualified following post race inspection, which means that Spencer finish fourth and Wink was officially fifth.
