Brian DeFebo of Berwick, PA held off Rusty Smith of Oxford, NY to score his third modified victory of the season Sunday afternoon at Mountain Speedway.  Jim Lamoreaux of Hunlock Creek notched his first late model win of the season and New Jersey’s Elliott Wohl scored his first career street stock verdict at the speedway.  Jeff Biegley grabbed his fifth 4 cyl. FWD win of the year and Chris Deritis notched his second career TQ midget win.

One caution flag and then a red flag waved in the eventful 40-lap modified main event before a single lap was scored.

The first came out when Barry Callavini and Kyle Ebersole collected on the front stretch and spun to the infield.  Both drivers restarted from the tail end of the field.

The red flag waved after the restart, when Geary Rinehimer made contact with the race polesitter, Rich Parker.  With nowhere to go, others were included, including Andy Walko.  Parker, who rode hard into the turn one wall and Styrofoam climbed from his car under his own power and was later transferred to a local hospital to get checked out.

Green flag racing resumed with Lew Hallock on the point.  Hallock’s lead was short-lived, as Brian DeFebo grabbed the race lead with one lap complete.  Rusty Smith grabbed second from Hallock, as did Todd Baer.

Several quick yellows flew over the first half of the event, one of which included Baer and Harry Buchman on lap fourteen.

DeFebo continued to lead at halfway, followed by Smith, John Fortin, Ebersole and Callavini.

Smith mounted a late race charge on DeFebo, and was unsuccessful with beating the three time modified champion to the stripe.  The win marks DeFebo’s third of the season.

Fortin finished third for the second consecutive week, with Ebersole and Callavini completing the top five.

Heat race wins went to Kyle Ebersole and Geary Rinehimer.

The 20-lap late model feature began with Joe Brown on the point and the caution quickly came out when Jim Wismer and Travis Fisher tangled in turn one.

Green flag racing resumed and Jim Lamoreaux took the lead, dropping Brown back to second.  Ricky Ross, Jr. held third, followed by Joe Hoffman and Jerry Brightaupt.

Ross worked by Brown for second following a lap five restart.  Hoffman snuck through as well to take third.

It was lap eleven when Ross drove by Lamoreaux and into the lead.  Like the pass earlier, Hoffman followed through as well.  Lamoreaux fell to third, with Larry Fisher and Mike Sweeney rounding out the top five.

Hoffman stayed glued to the back bumper of Ross and attempted to make the pass for the lead while coming out of turn four with eight laps remaining.  Ross ended up spinning from contact and Hoffman was forced to the rear of the field.  The exchanged handed the lead to Lamoreaux.

Lamoreaux led the final laps en route to his first victory of the season.  Fisher finished a close second, followed by Brown, Sweeney and Brighthaupt.

Ricky Ross, Jr. and Tony Volpe were heat race winners.

Steve Clark and Elliott Wohl shared the front row for the 25-lap street stock feature event.  Clark lurched into the early lead, followed by Wohl, Brian Wozniak, Brian Sones and Jason Arthoefer.

With six laps complete, Wohl drove to the inside of Clark in turn three and took the race lead.
The second of two lap eighteen yellows flew when Wozniak was spun from the third position while racing out of turn four.

Green flag racing resumed and Steve Shultz, who had entered the top five a few laps prior, overtook Clark for second.

Rick Kopf brought out a lap nineteen yellow after breaking something on his machine.  Koph rode the front stretch wall on two wheels during the incident and finally came to a rest in turn one.

Green flag racing resumed and Shultz did everything possible to get by Wohl, as the two crossed the strip side by side for the finish.  Brad Barbush started ninth and finished third.  Chip Wanamaker and Clark completed the top five.

Elliott Wohl, Brad Barbush and Steve Shultz were heat race winners.

Eric Banashefski led the first eight circuits of the 20-lap four-cylinder FWD main event before being overtaken by Ken Kleppinger.

Jeff Biegley started the race in fifth and grabbed second by lap nine.  Banashefski dropped to third, followed by Robert Fink and Nikki Wachs.

Biegley slipped by Kleppinger just past the halfway mark and drove off to his fifth win of the season over Kleppinger, Banashefski, Fink and Bill Verwys, Sr.

Rudy Botticher started from the pole position in the 25-lap TQ main event and was quickly overtaken by Robin Johnston.

With one lap complete, Austin Fehr worked into second, followed by Tim Behmer, Chris Deritis and Alison Cumens.

With a quick machine underneath him, Behmer moved by Johnston for the race lead on lap four.  Deritis followed suit and grabbed the second spot.

Mike Tidoback moved into third just before halfway and Frank Fischer and Zack Martini joined the top five.

Deritis caught Behmer in lapped traffic and took the lead on lap nineteen.  Trouble struck Behmer the following lap, as he tangled with a lapped car.

Green flag racing resumed and the red flag waved quickly a few circuits later after Fischer got tagged and shot across the front stretch in front of the field.  Fischer slammed the wall, as did Paul Lotier, Jr.  Martini, Fehr, Bob Watkins and Ian Cumens were caught up as well.

Green flag racing resumed and Deritis held off Tidoback to claim his second career win.  Alison Cumens was third, followed by Ryan Tidman.  Fehr rebounded from an earlier spin and finished fifth.

Heat race wins went to Mike Tidoback and Tim Behmer.
