White and Bentley Share Mountain Madness Glory
By: Gene Ostrowski
October 11, 2008
With one enduro still remaining on the schedule at Mountain Speedway,
round number six of the ABC Car Crushing Mountain Madness Enduro Series
is in the books. Jimmy White, Jr. led the final sixty-nine circuits and
visited victory lane in the 6/8-cylinder division and Dave Bentley, Jr.
extended his points lead with his third straight victory on Saturday.
Bob Kulik, Robin Schewire and Angelo Spezialetti shared the front row
for the start of the 100-lap 6/8-cylinder enduro. Schewire jumped out
with the early lead. The red flag waved not long after going green when
Jeff Walls stopped in turns three and four. Losing a lap in the
process, Walls got his car re-fired and was able to continue.
With ten laps complete, Joe Jentile worked into the second spot,
followed by Bob Wink, Jimmy White, Jr. and Joe Helberg. Jentile reeled
in Schewire and took control of the event four circuits later.
White quickly disposed of Schewire and began to catch the leader. The
two battled side-by-side for several laps before White made the lap
thirty-one pass for the lead stick.
White, who was seriously burned during a demolition derby event out of
state early in the summer, went on to take his first 6/8-cylinder win of
his career at the speedway. Jentile held on to finish second, followed
by Dominic Ranieri, Wink and Schewire. Only two cars remained on the
lead lap.
Dave Bentley, Jr., Denise Siegel and Robert Fink brought the 4-cylinder
field to the drop of the green flag. Bentley, who went into the event
as the series points leader after winning in his last two outings, took
the lead in the early going.
With only one lap completed, Fink moved into second with Siegel, Steve
Petry and Robin Schewire in tow.
Lapped traffic began to come into play and Petry took the top spot on
lap six. However, he was spun from the lead three laps later and
Bentley regained the point.
Bentley continued to lead at halfway, followed by Fink, Petry, Bill
Price, Jr. and Duane Garrison.
With only twenty laps remaining, Price received a right front flat and
was forced to pit. At that point, Garrison held the third spot with
Mark Foreman and Tony Arcaro completing the top five.
The laps wound down and Bentley cruised to his third straight Mountain
Madness enduro victory over Fink, Garrison, Foreman and Arcaro.
The “Halloween Screamer” is the next and final enduro of the season for
the Mountain Madness Enduro Series. The November 1st
double-points event will feature two 150-lap events and will pay each
winner $1500. The starting lineup for the events will be determined by
the order of pre-registered drivers. Registration forms are available
