Rick Zacharias had a lot on his mind heading into Sunday’s sport modified main event at Mountain Speedway.  Coming into the event as the points leader, Zacharias needed to stay out of trouble and pull out a respective finish.  Respective indeed, Zacharias drove off to take the checkered flag in the main event and also clinched the division title.  Ron Frees, of Brick, NJ double the feat, as he drove off to the super stock race win and also claimed the division championship.  Mike Gervais of Connecticut bested legend car champion, Roger Coss to the checkers in the legends feature and Ricky Ross, Jr. beat out his brother, Nick for the strictly stock race win.  Robert Vassilatos, Jr. grabbed the bandolarro checkers and championship and Matt Custer visited victory lane in the mini cups.

Mike Speeney led the eighteen-car field to the drop of the green flag in the 30-lap sport modified main event.  After starting third on the grid, Zane Zeiner quickly worked by the leader to take command.

With five laps complete, Zeiner continued in front of Jason Hearne, Scott Riggleman, Kevin Davison and Shaun Carrig.

Following a lap seven caution, trouble struck Zeiner, whose car did not get up to speed.  Zeiner’s bad luck handed the race lead to Hearne.

Several quick caution flags flew, one of which included a Carrig spin in turn three.  The lap seventeen yellow forced Carrig to restart from the tail end of the field.  Hearne led for the restart, followed by Riggleman, Rick Zacharias, Davison and Mike Skarbowski.

Following the restart, Riggleman battled Hearne for the race lead.  An attempt to take the point of turn four failed and the top two drivers tangled.  Bob Ankner was also collected.

Zacharias inherited the race lead for the restart and never looked back as he cruised on to the win over Davison, Skarbowski, Zach Martini and Rusty Smith.

The win secured the sport modified division championship for Zacharias.

Rich Zacharias, Zane Zeiner and Scott Riggleman were heat race winners.

Jerry Stanzione and Bill Vanderveen led the super stock field to the green flag in the 25-lap feature event.  Without a single lap scored, Vanderveen grabbed the race lead.

Greg Miranda worked into second, followed by Chip Wanamaker.  Wanamaker pressured Miranda for the runner up spot and the duo tangle on the backstretch.  After the caution, Ron Frees lined up in second for the lap six restart.

Frees wasted no time getting out front and over took Vanderveen for the race lead on lap seven.  He cruised to his fifth win of the season and in the process notched his first track title at the speedway.  Frank Reakes was second and Rick Kopf Richie DiMarco and Vanderveen completed the top five.

Jerry Stanzione and Rick Kopf were heat race winners.

Round number one of three for the “Strictly Stock Showdown” mini series kicked off with eighteen cars taking the green flag.

Late model driver and former thriller champion, Ricky Ross, Jr. started from the pole position and never relinquished the lead as he beat his brother, Nick to the checkers in the 25-lap contest.

Wayne Lowe and Howie Bott battled for the third spot throughout the event.  Lowe held on to finish in third, followed by and Nick Shaw.

Ricky Ross, Jr. and Paul Morgan, Jr. won the qualifiers.

Karl Heisler started from the pole and led the 23-car strong legend field to the drop of the green flag.  With one lap complete, Matt Maring took the race lead.

With Maring still out front on lap six, Mark Tischler moved into second, followed by Heisler, Mike Gervais and Steve Stull.

The second of four yellows waved on lap nine when Casey Robicheau and Drew Weiser tangled in turn four.  By this time Gervais had moved into the second spot.

With green flag racing set to resume, Maring could not restart his stalled car and was pushed pit side with disappointment.

Gervais inherited the race lead for the restart and held off division champion, Roger Coss to take the victory.  Luke Marzano finished third, followed by Heisler and Derek Hopkinson.

Roger Coss, Karl Heisler and Mike Gervais were heat race winners.

Six Mini cups and two bandolarros combined took to the speedway for a 15-lap feature race.

Robert Vassilatos, Jr. edged Sandi Stull to the checkers for the bandolarro victory.  The victory helped the 16-year-old clinch his first championship at the speedway.

Matt Custer bested Ken Stabley and Chris Chilson to the stripe to claim the mini cup victory.
