“Mouth of the Mountain” Guest on CARQUEST Gasoline AlleyBy: Gene Ostrowski December 16 , 2008 Ted Grow, the announcer at Mountain Speedway, will be a guest on the CARQUEST “Gasoline Alley” show next Monday, December 22. Joining Ed and Steve Pados, and Randy Kane on WALN Radio, Grow will recap the exciting 2008 season, as he looks forward to even a stronger year in 2009, which will mark his third season calling the races from the announcer’s tower. Grow, from Allentown, started off his announcing career as the infield announcer at Mahoning Speedway. He worked with former ARDC Midget announcer Barry Angstadt in 2004, and then with the renowned Dino Oberto afterward. Grow decided to make a change and when the 2007 season came he made a call to the Mountain Speedway track promoter. At the time Mike Odwazny was the promoter and he quickly welcomed Grow with open arms and the two called the races from the announcer booth all season long. Although he had been accustomed to infield announcing, the race calling seemed natural to Grow, and he added intensity for the fans. “I always loved doing victory lane announcing but in the back of my mind wanted a chance to step into the booth and give my hand at calling the side by side wheel to wheel competition”, he said. During his first season at Mountain Grow was nicknamed “The Mouth” and every race fan that attends the speedway knows exactly why. It’s obvious that the announcer, who is only in his early 20s, loves what he does. Grow returned to the booth in 2008 and is excited about his third season at the speedway and the competition there, “I have never seen such great racing like I do at Mountain. “I love every minute of it even practice as I watch closely and try to figure out who has a great car for the night”. Ted Grow can be heard on Gasoline Alley live from 6-8 PM on Monday, December 22 on WALN Radio. The station can also be heard from the station website at www.walncableradio.com.
