Mountain Speedway drivers shine at Laurel Mall Race Car ShowMarch 2, 2008- Over a dozen race cars that compete on the 1/3rd mile oval at Mountain Speedway were recently on display at the Laurel Mall in Hazleton, PA. Many of the drivers were also on hand to sign autographs and talk about their racing experiences, and all of them hoped that their racing vehicle would be judged “best of show” by the mall show-goers. Asphalt modifieds, late models, street stocks, thrillers, go-karts, TQ midgets and the FWD four cylinder divisions made up the annual show. Aside from the voting, race fans also had the opportunity to speak with track representatives and sign up to possibly win an A&A Auto gift certificate or a ride in the Mountain Speedway two-seater late model during the racing season. The fan votes were tallied late Sunday afternoon and Tommy Wanick III won the trophy for the best appearing modified. Travis Fisher had the best appearing late model, as did Steve Shultz with his street stock. Marissa Makarewicz won the award for the thriller cars and Eric Banashefski was the best appearing FWD 4-cylinder. The best appearing TQ midget went to Richie Coy and Mike Ventura took home the hardware in the enduro division. Matt Mattern, Jr. took top honors in the kart division. The next Mountain Speedway event will be the second Mountain Madness Enduro Series event of the season. The enduro cars and trucks will take the green flag on Saturday, March 15.
