Mountain Speedway setting the pace for fans, and racers March 17, 2008 With two enduro races already in the books, the management at Mountain Speedway is looking forward to a great start to the 2008 racing season. The pit area will be filled to capacity, and race fans will be arriving early to be guaranteed a seat, as two action packed divisions of open wheeled Modifieds will grace the 1/3rd-mile asphalt oval, for the 2008 season. Support divisions will be overflowing with talent as well, as racers from all over the northeast have indicated they will be calling Mountain Speedway their home track for 2008, and for many good reasons. Speedway promoter, Joe Callavini, commented on a suspension that was announced just a couple weeks ago. The suspension was given following an incident late last season. “Speedway management made its decision and is sticking to it.”, said Callavini, after suspending a championship driver for the first six weeks of this season. “Media members, along with others have already tried to over dramatize things, but the bottom line is safety and fairness for all competitors. Rule books are written for a reason, and we can’t let things get out of hand.”, he added. Moving forward, the speedway has already added shows to accommodate misplaced Wall Speedway racers, prior to the recent announcement of the popular New Jersey oval’s closure. The announcement was made on Friday, March 14 that Wall had closed its doors for good. “Seriously, I hate it for all of the drivers that ran down there (Wall)”, said Callavini. “We invite all drivers and teams who competed at Wall, to come and feel at home…here at Mountain. We have a great group of people here and the drivers are second to none- they really put on a terrific show.”, he said. “So far seven extra dates have been added to the speedway’s schedule, and if the interest is there, more may be added.”, stated speedway co-promoter, Mike Odwazny. “We just want to give everyone and their families a place to race. At Mountain, it’s not only about the entertainment of the diehard race fans, it’s also about the kids and families that come out to the races to enjoy themselves, for the first time. We are committed to the future of our sport.”, he added. Practice dates are set for Saturday, March 29, and Saturday, April 5 from 12 noon to 5:30 pm. Rules for the added divisions are posted on the track’s website- www.mountainspeedway.com.
