After surrendering to rain Saturday night sunny skies set the tone Sunday at Sundance Vacations Speedway. Zane Zeiner scored his third win of the season by taking the 75-lap Sport Modified main event. Joe Barbush notched his first Street Stock career win and Robert Fink notched his second 4 Cyl. FWD victory of the season. Johnnie Gloor IV drove from last to first en route to his first INEX Legends win at the speedway.

Joe Wielgosz started from the pole position in the 75-lap double points Sport Modified main event and was overtaken at the start by Paul Frantz. Mike Skarbowski jumped into the second position, followed by Earl Paules and Mike Speeney.

Dave Garfinkel fell off the pace, which ensued a lap two caution. The green flag waved and Paules completed a daring three-wide move to take the race lead in turn two.

Zane Zeiner started twelfth and worked his way into the fourth position by lap seven. Nine laps later he overtook Paules for the lead. Two laps later Paules, who had a rear tire going down, spun in turns one and two. The caution flew and Paules darted into the pits.

Zeiner continued to lead on lap thirty with Speeney in second. Skarbowski held third followed by Jason Hearne and Barry Callavini.

Scott Adams start back in the sixteenth position and worked his way into sixth. He challenged Hearne on several occasions for the fifth spot and eventually completed the pass. Meanwhile, Paules began to march back toward the front.

Zeiner, of Bath, PA, drove away from his competition over the closing laps and went on to take his third Sport Modified win of the season over two 18-year olds- Mike Speeney and Mike Skarbowski. Barry Callavini had a strong run to finish fourth and Earl Paules completed the top five.

Heat race wins went to Mike Skarbowski, Earl Paules and Zane Zeiner. Scott Adams won the consi.

From the outside pole position, Brian Wozniak overtook pole sitter, Josh Oswald, to lead the opening laps of the Street Stock feature. Robert Fink climbed to second by the third circuit, followed by Oswald, Joe Barbush and CJ Lehmann.

The first and only caution of the event flew on the third lap when Chip Wanamaker spun in turn three. Several drivers took evasive action and Mike Schadder pounded the outside retaining wall. Steve Shultz and Brad Barbush were also collected. All of the drivers involved hit the pits for repairs. Shultz and Schadder were unable to continue.

Green flag racing resumed and J. Barbush wasted no time moving toward the front. First he shot by Oswald and then Fink. Next he battled with Wozniak and overtook the leader in turn four. The lap seven pass gave the former Late Model standout the race lead.

J. Barbush held off Wozniak, Ron Babula, Richie DiMarco and Fink to score his first career Street Stock victory.

Although he’s won before in a Late Model and Factory Stock, Barbush was emotional in victory lane and dedicated the race to his father, who passed away two seasons ago. His father, Joe Barbush, Sr., built the car from the ground up. “He told me it would be a winning car”, said Joe, Jr. of Drums, PA. “I’m just finally glad it won a race for him”.

Steve Shultz, Steve Clark and Brian Wozniak were heat race winners and Danny Cascioli took the consi race victory.

Frank Katona started on the pole and led the opening laps for the 4 Cyl. FWD main. Thirteen-year-old Mike Kline held second following the start with Ken Kleppinger, Jon Smith and Robert Fink in tow.

The first and only yellow flag waved when Kline tried to get underneath Katona for the race lead in turn one. There was contact and Katona spun, which forced both drivers to restart from the tail end of the field. The exchange gave the lead to Fink, who was running third at the time of the incident.

Kleppinger ran second for the restart and began to be pressure for the spot by Brian Kunkel. Meanwhile, Smith and Kline, who made a drive back through the field, raced for the fourth position.

Kleppinger slipped back by mid race and Smith moved into third.

Fink, of West Nanticoke, PA, drove off to his second race win of the season over Kunkel, Smith, Banashefski and Kline.

A win or no win would have satisfied Smith, as he was on a high note since his fiancé Kelly gave birth to their baby daughter the night before.

Frank Katona and Jon Smith were heat race winners.

Mike Alcaro led his fellow INEX Legend competitors to the drop of the green flag in the feature event. Alcaro maintained the race lead, followed by Zane Zeiner, Scott Hubler, Kevin Nowak and Casey Robicheau.

Nowak began to contest with Hubler for third and the two made contact on lap seven with sent Nowak into a turn two spin. His luck didn’t improve thereafter.

With the green flag in the air for the restart, Johnnie Gloor IV got into the back of Robicheau, which sent here into a front stretch spin. Several others were collected, including Kenny Van Winkle, Justin Grimm, Raven Schrantz and Nowak. With significant damage, Nowak retired from competition.

It appeared that Alcaro had the field covered but the caution flew with two laps remaining when Matt Marring spun in turn two. At this point in the event, Gloor had raced his way back into second.

Gloor wasted no time on the restart and challenged Alcaro for the top spot. With one lap remaining, Gloor took the race lead and drove off to his first career victory at the track. Alcaro crossed the strip in second and was disqualified following the event, which gave the runner-up spot to Mark Tischler. Zeiner finished third, with Hubler and Robicheau rounding out the top five.

Heat race wins went to Johnnie Gloor and Kevin Nowak.
