Racers Will Do Battle in Brad Kline Memorial “Street Stock Shootout”

Dean Kline, Sr., a legendary racer at Sundance Vacations Speedway
and wife Brenda will never forget the event that devastated their
lives on March 7th of this year. It was the day that
their son, 25-year-old Brad Kline lost his life in an automobile
accident. Like his father, Brad was a well-known racer and champion
who cared deeply for his family and had a passion for the sport of
auto racing. Both family and friends have mourned the loss of the
talented racer which has prompted the Kline family and Sundance
Vacations Speedway to join together with the running of the “Brad
Kline Memorial” Street Stock Shootout on Sunday, August 16th
at Sundance.
Brad was a fun loving kind of guy who loved to joke around. However,
he was a focused and fierce competitor when it came to driving,
which made him one of the dominant forces at his home track. In just
his early 20s, he clinched his first division title in 2003, and
followed it up with another championship for the 2004 season. He
nearly pulled the three-peat championship in 2005, before scaling
back to a limited schedule the last few seasons.
Dean Kline's business, the Crossroads Inn in Mountain Top, PA is the
primary race sponsor. Lap sponsorship can be obtained by
visiting the Crossroads inn, or by emailing Gene Ostrowski at
gjtost@verizon.net.. Folks willing to sponsor laps can also stop
by the speedway photo booth on race day, leading up to the memorial
race.
Tobias Slingshots and SpeedSTRS, will fill out the racing card for
this special event.. This event will mark the first time that the
popular Tobias SpeedSTRS will tour the 1/3-mile asphalt track in St.
Johns, PA. A special Street Stock race format with added money to
all competitors, plus lap money will make this one of the largest
paying Street Stock events ever held at the speedway. Split into two
segments, the winner of the second segment will be crowned the
overall winner, for the record books.
The 30-car Street Stock starting field will be set via time trials
and a non-qualifier race will be held, if needed. The fast timer
will receive a cash prize and other awards such as “Hard Charger”,
“Hard Luck”, and others will be announced in the near future.
The first main will pay $231 to win and the second and overall
winner will receive $750. To date, many laps are sponsored for the
event at a minimum of $10 each and the lap leader will receive the
cash following post race tech.
The pit entrance fee for the non-points paying event is $35 and the
driver registration fee is $25(including transponder rental), or
just $20(with your own transponder).
According to the
Tobias Slingshot website,
Rich “Toby” Tobias Jr. has always believed that
costs of racing continue to escalate out of control while the purse
structures seldom improve. Nearly a decade ago, Tobias took a vision
and put it in place. He began an affordable racing division called
the Slingshots and today there are over 600 cars competing in 14
different states across the country. In 2007, Tobias began to
implement his next phase of “Affordable Racing Technology” from his
Myerstown, Pa.-based Speedway Entertainment business: the SpeedSTR.
SpeedSTR stands for Short Track Racer and is a self-starting, open
wheel racecar powered by a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam Mopar engine.
The popularity of both SpeedSTRs and Slingshots have considerably
grown since their inception and along with the exciting two and
three wide Street Stock racing the Tobias divisions will treat race
fans to a style of racing that isn’t normally seen at the paved
oval.
Practice will begin at 12:30 PM with time trials starting at 2 PM,
and racing scheduled to get under way at 3 PM.
