Come Out to
the Mountain Madness Enduro and Help Support the Tracy Family
January 13,
2009
Cheryl Tracy of Freeland was a loving and devoted mother, wife
with four children, including a 13-year-old daughter Stephanie.
She worked in the cafeteria of the Freeland Elementary School
were the kids absolutely adored her, and Cheryl never missed a
basketball or little league game her daughter played in. In
November of 2009 Cheryl suddenly became ill and she went to the
doctor with abdominal pain. Unexpectedly, she had to undergo
extensive surgery. Cheryl was given the news that would change
her and her family's life forever. SHE HAD CANCER!!
With her husband, children and friends by her side, Cheryl was
released from the hospital the day before Thanksgiving. Cheryl's
husband, Rob, an active Staff Sergeant in the US Army who has
served 3 tours of duty over seas, took a leave of absence to be
by his wife's side.
In mid-December Cheryl began having complications and was
admitted back into the hospital where she spent Christmas and
her daughter's 13th birthday. Cheryl was then
notified that the cancer had spread and there was nothing
further they could do. However, Cheryl and Rob Tracy weren't
ready to give up. Cheryl was released from the hospital and
their fight against cancer begun.
In early January, Cheryl became ill and was rushed to the
hospital before being transferred to the University of
Pennsylvania Hospital. The cancer had spread rapidly throughout
her body. At one point it was said there was nothing they could
do for her and she would come home with Hospice Care.
On January 11th, Cheryl was informed that the doctors
weren’t sure what type of cancer she had. She would then begin
chemotherapy treatments and they would run more tests.
Unfortunately, Cheryl lost her battle and passed away on January
20.
The Tracy family is friends of Bill Rice, a veteran Mountain
Madness enduro racer. To help support the family, Sundance
Vacations Speedway will be donating a portion of the proceeds
from the upcoming enduro on February 27 to the Tracy’s.
Together, and with added donations and support, everyone can
help do something great for the Tracy family and possibly help
relieve some of the stress from their huge loss and the accumulating bills and
household costs during this tough time.
