Racing at Mountain Speedway is Black and White for "The Kid"

It was during the Halloween season almost two years ago when enduro fans got their first taste of Jimmy "The Kid" White, Jr. Now it is, one enduro win and many races later, White has the racing community buzzing about the 17 year old high school senior and his #19 Jim's Busy Bee Pest Control Chevy Monte Carlo Super Sport.

It all started a little more than a year ago, when White decided that he wanted to get behind the wheel of a racecar. Followers of the NEETS Holiday Stock Cars Series, the Southampton, NY family began building a car for the next show. Although White had strong runs along the way, lady luck wasn't always on his side, but was never discouraged about his hard luck. "I kept telling the kid, learn to finish races and you'll be in contention at the end. Don't get a hot head", noted Jim White, Sr. "He has talent, but needed to realize that a race isn't won at the start. He's come a long way since that first race". Beside NEETS and Mountain Speedway shows, White also competed at Riverhead Raceway in the enduro, grand enduro and school bus races.

When White showed up at the track the following season, he not only had his own ride, but also had one for his mother, Darlene (aka…Fluffy) and his sister, Jennifer. The trio ran a number of enduro shows, while White transferred over to the 4-cylinder thriller division at Mountain Speedway. Although White did not bring home the checkered flag in the 'regular' division, he finished off the year 5th in the points and gained oodles of experience behind the wheel. The enduro series was another story.

Only one year after his very first start, White surprised his competitors when he visited victory lane in the NEETS Frankenduro. The win propelled the White family's ambition for the sport even more and 'The Kid' couldn't wait for the next race. Following strong runs over the next few shows, White was determined to win the NEETS season finale 'Mutha of all Enduros'. Although his day was plagued with tire problems and accidents, the teen finished a respectable 9th.

White smiled while reflecting on the past season. "I rolled a car in one race and got out. We flipped it back over and I drove into the pits because they (officials) told me to. A few laps later I rejoined the race, which was really cool. I love this track, the people there and the family atmosphere, it's second to none".

Although he enjoys his newfound 4-cylinder success, the elder White decided it was time to up the anny and build a street stock for their '06 campaign. "We feel that the car we all built is as competitive as any", noted White, Sr. "Champions such as Larry Fisher and Joe Grocholski helped us out a lot and did a ton of work on it".

White's plan for this was season is to gain valuable experience in the street stocks, and he made the run for rookie of the year, with hopes of picking up a feature win. Jimmy wasn't the only White family member on the track on a weekly basis, as his mother, "Fluffy" White, along with his sister, Jen, competed on a limited basis in the 4-cylinder thriller division. The entire family continues to compete in the NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series.

It seems that over the past season and a half, whenever someone is in need of something, almost anything, the entire White family is right there and willing to give a helping hand. Based on the experience he has gained since race #1, along with past driving experience, look for 'The Kid' in victory lane before long.
