Mountain Madness from May 13th
What can we say? Nature can be such a mother! Speaking of which, happy belated Mother's Day to all the proud & soon to be proud mommies out there! What started off as a weekend proved to be rained out was almost completed here at Mountain Speedway? As race director, Ed Solt noted on the on-line forum, nice job by everyone adhering calls and paying attention for a smooth night. Although the modified feature was dismissed due to rain, the fans will witness not one, but two Balliet's Country Corners modified features Saturday, May 20th.
The street stocks hit the stage like a bat outta hell (is that legal to print?). Man, the battle up front between Wanamaker and Geist was fierce, no doubt! Did anyone even realize they're teammates? Congrats to "Hollywood" on the win, but along with the storms, there was a storm'in Norman Barnes brewing in the pack. This guy has had some decent, then not so decent runs thus far in '06. Norm finished 7th in the feature after running in the top five. He also sits 9th in the overall standings. Nice comeback after a rough week of racing Mr. Barnes and welcome to Mountain's fast track!
People say, "it's not over 'til it's over". Hmmm, Josh Oswald surprised the thriller field by nailing his first win of the season Saturday. The win was great, especially after the 7-second lead he had over Bill Price before the last caution. On that last restart Price and Mike Skelly were all in contention for the win, but the battle for second tore on and Oswald nailed #1! However, consistency wins races as well & it'll be no time at all until Skelly visits the 'checkered area' at Mountain. Welcome to Mountain Madness Mike.
Another thrilling moment was the pass for the lead in the 4 cyl. thrillers. Sherman on the inside, Sager outside…wait! Was that vice-versa? Either the case, both of the top two or three waged a terrific battle, along with poor Travis Fisher, who was reeling in the leader with a couple to go. Problems for Fisher left Sherman in second, but this guy is consistent, and on his mark! Joe, your second place effort marks your 3rd top 10, second top 5 and you sit 6th overall in the standings. Not so bad for a ….rookie! Welcome aboard!
What about the modifieds you ask? Hey, no fear, we'll throw a trophy in next week for the mod hard charger in the make up feature Saturday. Stay tuned & see you Saturday at Northeast Pennsylvania's fast track….Mountain Speedway!
Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Thank you to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Without Chris & the gang we would be handing out stickers instead! Tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in Mountain Madness at Mountain Speedway.
