Mountain Madness from May 7th

Well, we're through it all ready! The final week of Spring Sunday racing at Mountain Speedway is in the books…now it's time for Saturday night fever! Hey, gimmie a break, I was born in the 70's. Sunday's racing was pretty awesome despite some lower car counts, but that didn't mean each race wasn't exciting, for sure! Didn't say it yet, but this edition is all about what if & of course, hard luck. Awards going to drivers with strong runs, but lady luck just wasn't on their side. We looked at a few things from Sunday, so here's the take:

Congratulations to Brian Defebo for taking the weekend sweep at both area asphalt tracks! Wins well deserved! Steven Reed led the first 21 circuits and appeared to be in victory lane, but lady luck wouldn't have it, as he was spun from contention. Not the way you wanted to finish it, but it was a well effort! It's all part of the Mountain Madness.

Joe Hoffman grabbed his first win of the season in the late models with a strong run. Another win well deserved Joe! However, after mid race, Jim Brown was in the third spot and appeared that his car was working well! While slowing up for another driver, he was taken from contention. Hey, we all know that's racin' & things happen, but a strong run by Brown's #5. Welcome aboard!

Scott Meckes is one of those guys who has had some bad luck recently, but grabbed the street stock win Sunday. Nice job Scott! But, when one prevails another's day ends in disgust. That would be Paul Frantz. Paulie's run was strong, but while battling for 3rd he was involved in a bit of a predicament. Nice run by the #10 & welcome to Mountain's fast track.

Next up, the thrillers. Congrats to Ricky Ross, Jr, who literally dusted the field enroot to his first win. What a wild race. Well, Joe Heintzelman started 12th, worked up to 5th and was spun out on lap fourteen. Another tough break after a stellar run for this driver. But, once again, it's all part of Mountain Madness.

Harry Sager is the first two-time winner in the four cylinder thrillers. Nice job Harry! It was another wild race for the fans that stuck around. Many drivers had hard luck in this one, but one particular driver had a strong run going after starting dead last. Troubles for the #94 machine of Kyle Heckman puts him on the fast track in the four cylinders. Look for this kid to shake off some bad luck and be back up front in no time! Welcome aboard.

Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Thank you to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Without Chris & the gang we would be handing out stickers instead! Tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in Mountain Madness at Mountain Speedway.
