Mountain Madness from June 10th
Here we are folks, Pocono weekend is in the books and what a week of racing we had at the fast track! First off, congratulations to all the H.S. seniors who graduated this past week. Now ya all have better things to look forward too, LOL. Don't worry, I'm sure you've heard enough about "the real world" to make it through!
So, on that note…How about Chris Whitenight taking the win in the Balliet's Country Corners Modified feature? Man, what a race. Only five-career mod starts & this kid proved that he could do it! Whitenight held off numerous attempts from "Lightening" Lou Strohl and never flinched. Sure, Strohl could have dumped him, but what would that have done except put him to the rear. Strohl joins Mountain Madness this week, not only for his second place effort and best of the season, but because it looks as though his season is finally turning around for the better. Rumor had it that the winningest MVS driver couldn't run well at another speedway. Welcome to the fast track Lou!
How about the attrition in the late models lately? Survival seems to be the key in these races so far. However, there was plenty of hard racing action and it was good to see Barry Gommer back in victory lane. This week's Mountain Madness award goes out to Mike Coll. Although he has two feature wins, Coll keeps it consistent and the young driver typically keeps his nose clean. It's a long season and that's what wins championships. Welcome to the fast track!
The street stock feature might have been filled with yellows, but the action was all around the speedway (as usual). Nice to see Eric Danyluk visit victory lane after the injury he sustained last season. Disappointing day for Jim Yamelski, who had a great run going, but had to head pit side after getting a small piece of one of the incidents. How about Jennifer Kutz? She had one heck of a ride going and finished in the top five, which is her best of '06 so far. How long will it be until we see the queen of the Mountain back in victory lane? Welcome aboard Jennifer!
Thriller-mania (as they called it in the "old days") hit the speedway with another awesome show. I can't wait to see the Ed Makarewicz 50-lap memorial race after the show these drivers put on. Congrats to Price on yet another win, but this one was well hard fought with Mike Skelly, K-Mac and Oswald. Speaking of Makarewicz, this guy started the season off late because he was waiting for his motor. He came out of the box with everything to prove and has done it. That elusive win is around the corner and with the third place finish (after leading 6 laps), congrats & welcome to Mountain Madness.
Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Also, thanks to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. All their support is greatly appreciated! Hey, if you see Chris and the Gang from Valley in the stands or pits…stop by & say hello to them. Tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in Mountain Madness at Mountain Speedway.
