Mountain Madness from July 15th
Hey there! Looks like mid-season championship races are all in the books and now we're all beginning to worry about points. Or, are we? Let's see. Most drivers say points come along the way, but wins are what matters most. However, we all know that deep down, points are always in the back of every driver's minds, whether is for the number one spot, or earning the tenth place in the overall standings. Just something to think about!
How about it? Twenty-six Balliet's Country Corners modifieds on hand when twenty qualify for the 35-lap feature! What a show it was, and the $200 to win, thanks to SVS of Hazleton made it even more spectacular. "The Bullet", Eddie Brunnhoelzl held off Brian Defebo to take the win. One other note is that these two drivers sit one-two in the standings and finished in the same order. That's not something that's typical on a double points night! The driver on the fast track this week has to be the driver of the #1 machine, Tony Hanbury. Hanbury started way back in 16th and worked his way into the 5th spot. Nice piece of driving, along with the hard charger of the race puts him on the fast track at Mountain Speedway.
Another decent showing for the late models showed the fans that there are cars out there and that the competition is fierce! Point leader, Mike Coll. Was looking for a good showing, and he had one, finishing 2nd. Congrats to Joe Hoffman on the win, which was his third of the season. Hot Rod Jr. and Beau Drobot also had solid runs, but the driver on the fast track this week has to be Mike Radocha, Jr. Radocha has only been out to Mountain a handful of times this season, but has yet to finish outside the top seven! Consistency is key, and this guy has been just that, consistent. Welcome aboard!
After a talking to from Mountain's co-promoter, Billy Bartley, the thrillers hit the stage for their double points, 25-lapper. "The Bandit", Dave Cascioli took the win in fashion over point leader, Bill Price, Jr. Nice run by all of those drivers on the track. Each and every one deserves a pat on the back. Let's get back to the improving/consistent drivers. Joe Kmetz might have started Saturday night racing through enduros, but it's quite evident that his season is turning for the better. Long runs, longer races and better finishes has put him on the fast track for the thrillers this week. Running even higher at times, Joe finished in the 7th spot, which is one of his higher finishes this season. Congrats!
"High Groove" Harry Sager might have went a little too high in the four cylinder thriller main to help take the checkers, but Joe Sherman was still semi-pleased with the win. Tough break for Travis Fisher, whose car looked very fast this week. Also, glad to see that Coltin Judge was all right after a hard hit with the turn one and two fence. Speaking of Sherman, the current point leader was not the most talkative person in victory lane for obvious reasons but has also displayed patience so far this season. It's not the win that awards him with the Mountain Madness award, but being in the right place at the right time, without blatantly forcing the issue! Welcome to the fast track!
So, now we're off to the second half of the season, which means autograph nights are approaching. Also, the Street Stock Shootout, the Big Dog 100 and all kinds of other "special" things. Let's not forget that the point's race in every division is very close at this point! Also, congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Also, thanks to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Good luck to all and tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in 'Mountain Madness' at Mountain Speedway.
