Mountain Madness from August 26th
Somehow we made it through all the features Saturday. Even with a threat of real rain, somehow all six features ran, and I was pulling out of the track before 10 PM. Good job by all the drivers and officials for getting the show in! Although Saturday went well, it stunk to see Sunday get rained out, as I know we were all looking forward to the Big Dog 100, and all of the other shows that were set for the day...
Congratulations to Mike Rodriguez and Joe Hoffman on their late model wins! Hoffman now leads with the most wins in the division (4). Sorry to see the hit that Fisher took under caution in the first event. The driver on the fast track this week is Joe Barbush. At one point during the season, Barbush had the point lead, but a few "not so great" runs dropped him in the standings. Now, coming off a 5th and 2nd place effort, Barbush will try to keep the consistency going, as he fends off Hoffman and tries to reel in Mike Coll. Congratulations Joe!
Congrats are also in order for Stormin' Norman Barnes and Paul Frantz for their street stock victories. Frantz, who was tied with point leader, Scott Meckes in season wins took the lead in the win category when he picked up his fourth victory of the season. However, there are a few rookie drivers out there who are just trying to gain experience and gain valuable seat time. One particular driver, 17-year-old Brian Sones, finally grabbed his first top ten finish of the season by finishing 8th. Congratulations on the run and keep it up! Bet it made your dad (Kenny Sones) proud!
What can we say about Steve Shultz in the thrillers? Here he is, in his second season of racing and has finally picked up the elusive victory! Congrats. Just ask Oswald how long it takes for the second win! One driver who has really got back on track over the last month or so is Ricky Ross. The second-generation driver finished second after starting back in ninth. It was another great run by yet another "rookie" in the division. Welcome to the fast track!
That was one heck of a four-cylinder thriller race for sure! Harry Sager just barely beat Joe Sherman to the line with the turn four pass. Tough break though for Travis Fisher, who was in the top spot with a handful of laps to go. It was also another strong run for the 3-wheeler, Bill Halstead. The driver on the fast track to success this week finished in the fourth spot. That would be the "Maddawg", Bob Wink. Winky got knocked out of shape during the event, but held on to it and still managed to finish fourth. The good effort should help move him closer to point leaders, and also puts him on the fast track to success at Mountain Speedway. Congratulations!
Hey, Don't forget folks- back to Sunday racing starting September 10th. Bring the kids out for some big wheel racing (they're run after warm-ups). Thanks to the big wheel sponsor, Jim's Busy Bee Pest Control, and also to Rich DiMarco for their big wheel support this season!
Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Also, thanks to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Good luck to all and tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in 'Mountain Madness' at Mountain Speedway.
