Mountain Madness from September 10th

Holy cow! What an interesting day Sunday was. First, I need to apologize for the skimpy press release, but with everything that was running Sunday, there wasn't a show in town that wanted to print a novel, so I promise that there will be more detail about Sunday's action in the next program. As we approach the end of the season, the point's battles are heating up and the runner-ups are gaining ground, which should make things a little dramatic before the King of the Mountain events.

Congratulations to Chaz Surman on his first modified win! Also, congrats to Brian Defebo on his third of the season. At this point last year, the three time mod champ had nine wins! It just goes to show how competitive the modified division is this year at the speedway. Still, with the three wins, Defebo holds the record for the season with the most so far. Donny Hartzell had a great run going in the first feature and had a strong second place effort in the second, which puts him on the fast track to success at Mountain. With only a few starts this season, Donny's looking for that first win this year. Congratulations & welcome to Mountain Madness.

It was surely a tough day for the point's contenders in the late models. Although they all ran well, some had problems, but Joe Hoffman cruised to his second straight win. Congratulations Joe. Another Joe…Brown that is, has had some horrible luck since about a quarter of the way through the year. For weeks he talked about taking time off, but hasn't. Out of turn four, Brown nearly notched his first victory, but still brought the car home in one piece with the second place effort. Nice run and welcome to the fast track Joe!

It was nice to see all of the folks who came out for the 77-lap "Cook's Touch Restaurant" Mark Corbisero memorial event. Gone, but not forgotten is the phrase, and Mark's memory definitely remains among many of us. Thank you to all of the folks who sponsored laps for the event and also, congrats to Stormin' Norman Barnes on the victory! Dave, from the Cook's Touch has sponsored this event since 2003. Being a proud sponsor of Mark for a number of years, it's only right to show Dave some appreciation for his efforts. Unlike last year, the #77 wasn't in competition this season, but the Street Stock Mountain Madness trophy for this one goes to The Cook's Touch, in memory of Mark.

It's been a while since Bill Price, Jr. visited victory lane. It was a great race, watching Kevin Makarewicz mixing it up for the top spot. Oswald had another solid top five finish, as did the Dr- Howie Bott. So, who's on the fast track? Well, it has to be Kevin Makarewicz on the second place run. It wasn't too long ago when Kevin was going to call it quits for the season because he blew the motor. However, a buddy of his just happened to have a few lying around and offered one to him…end of story. Congrats on the finish and that first one will come soon. Welcome to the fast track again.

Another dusting by Harry Sager in the four cylinders! Congrats on yet another win. Hey, is it time for another vacation, LOL? In the only caution free race of the day/night, Sager grabbed the win over Joe Sherman and Bill Halstead. Both of those drivers have been untouchable lately and all three drivers are rookies in the division! Travis Fisher held the lead at one point and still ended the night with a top five. Nikki Wachs is the first female four-cylinder driver to score a top five finish. Her fourth place effort in the 20-lap feature puts her on the fast track to success at Mountain Speedway. Congrats!

Don't forget- big wheel racing again on Sunday, September 17th. Bring the kids out for some big wheel action (they're run after warm-ups). Thanks to the big wheel sponsor, Jim's Busy Bee Pest Control, and also to Rich DiMarco for their big wheel support this season!

Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Also, thanks to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Good luck to all and tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in 'Mountain Madness' at Mountain Speedway.
