Mountain Madness from September 17th
I'll be honest (big surprise, huh?)…Not being a huge fan of Sunday shows I have to say that this past week went really well. It was good to get things completed at a decent time and also to witness some great racing among all divisions. Congratulations to all of the feature winners: Mark Bakaj in the legends, Brian Defebo in the mods, Larry Fisher in the late models, Brad Barbush in the street stocks, Mike Moyer in the thrillers and Harry Sager in the four cylinder thrillers! Whew, now that was a breath and a half! Also, remember, there's only one more week of point racing left, besides the 200 points awarded for attending the 7th annual KING OF THE MOUNTAIN……
The Balliet's Country Corners Modifieds put on one hell of a show Sunday! Despite a few restarts where the second place runner had problems, it was a nice show for the fans. With great side-by-side racing all around the speedway, Lou Strohl seemed to be the guy to beat until he encountered mechanical problems late in the race. Defebo took his fourth win, while Surman had an outstanding second place effort. Nice run by Arthofer and a good rebound by Brunnhoelzl after an early flat. So, who's the modified daddy on the fast track this week? Well, simple. That's Defebo. Not only did he pick up his second straight win of the season, but he also leads the pack with four wins on the season. Not to mention that he's second in points (but that doesn't seem to matter). Looking for more wins this season- welcome to the fast track Brian!
It's been some time since Larry Fisher visited victory lane in the late models. Although he started from the pole, it was a job well done by both Fisher and Joe Hoffman. Mike Coll did what he needed to do for the championship by finishing ahead of Joe Barbush. Joe Brown had another stout run as well! Although it's probably not the finish that the team wanted, Coll rebounded late in the race to finish third. The effort plus consistency puts him back on the fast track to success at Mountain Speedway.
Brad Barbush rebounded after a tough week of racing with a win…nice job getting the car back together! Great run by Rich DiMarco, along with title contenders, Paul Frantz and Scott Meckes. Not necessarily a rookie in racing, but definitely at Mountain, Gary VanOrden finished fifth and looks like he and John Stonier will put on one heck of a battle for rookie of the year honors. After missing a few shows, VanOrden is proving that he's a contender after finishing in the top five. Welcome to Mountain Madness Gary!
"Magic" Mikey Moyer finally grabbed the thriller victory he wanted by crossing the stripe first! Nice run by Moyer and Ross, as no one really had any idea who would take the checkers. It was good to see Shaun Burd back in the top five after being burned earlier in the season from his accident at his job. Also, another strong run by Steve Shultz. How about that Petey character winning the factory stock portion of Oswego!!!??? Man, Oswald, or Ozzy as he's called has been consistent week in and out, but also looks like the title is out of his reach. Hey, second is never disappointing, just ask all of the drivers who finished there! For the consistency and a great '06 season so far, welcome to the fast track Oz!
Nine, count it, nine wins for "High Groove" Harry Sager this season- wow! The four-cylinder thriller race was still exciting, even though most could predict the outcome. Good job by Harry and the crew, and also to Joe Sherman, who was right where he needed to be at the end. Joe Heintzelman had a great run in the Joe Grocholski machine and Bob Wink picked up another top five. Gotta give the shout to Travis Fisher and that #8 team though. After a strong start to the season, Fisher struggled, but has reeled off a fine third place effort. With the turn around and with only one real week left in the points chase, welcome back to the fast track Travis!
Don't forget- big wheel racing again on Sunday, September 24th. Bring the kids out for some big wheel action (they're run after warm-ups). Thanks to the big wheel sponsor, Jim's Busy Bee Pest Control, and also to Rich DiMarco for their big wheel support this season! Also, keep you eyes peeled to www.mountainspeedway.com for the Big Dog King of the Mountain event, along with information on the fan favorite NEETS Fem-Duro!
Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Also, thanks to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Good luck to all and tune in next week to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in 'Mountain Madness' at Mountain Speedway.
