Mountain Madness from September 24th

Well, well, well. What can I say? This season is almost complete and as long as the point leaders attend the upcoming 7th annual King of the Mountain, they will OFFICIALLY be the 2006 track champions! Now, who in their right mind would miss this show if they were leading the points? Guess we'll see them there! Hey, on that note, congrats to Eddie Brunnhoelzl, Mike Coll, Scott Meckes, Bill Price, Jr. and Joe Sherman on their championships! If for some very strange reason, they don't show up on October 7th I'll be congratulating someone else.

So the final week of regular madness is now in the books. "Lightening" Lou Strohl looked good out there and took the win at a track that many folks said he couldn't win at. Strohl proved them all wrong and grabbed his first Mountain win..nice job! Good run by Eddie Brunnhoelzl. The second place effort helped him sew up that championship. Also, good run by the rookie, Chris Whitenight and also by the hard charger of the race, Zane Zeiner. How about Barry Callavini? In his third mod start, Callavini looked like he could possibly grab his first win. Although it didn't end that way, a third in your third start ain't half bad. For the fine run- welcome to the fast track in the modifieds!

Mike Coll grabbed the win and crown in the late models Sunday. It was his fourth win of the season, which puts him in second with wins this season, behind Joe Hoffman, who ended up finishing second in the feature. Hoffman has five wins on the season and has been stellar the latter half of this year. Good runs by Joe Brown and Joe Barbush as well. How about the guy who finished third? Donny Holland had a rough season for sure in '05 and was ill for some time. He rebounded, got back behind the wheel for a few shows this season and looked strong. His feature finish puts him on the fast track to success this season in the late model division…congratulations!

Scott Meckes went from 3rd to 1st in the street stock feature. He picked up the win and his second championship in the division (first in 2001). Second in points=second in the race- Paul Frantz. Paul had a strong year, as did Norman Barnes, who finished fifth in the event. Richie DiMarco has become a threat to win on any given week, and has proven that by backing up last week's second place effort with a third this week. So, who's on the fast track? Well, that would be Todd Barbush. Todd's had a rough year, which included a number of problems. He's putting a new car together for next year, but finds himself on the Mountain Madness list this season with his 3rd place finish in the 'ol Malibu. Congrats!

On to the thrillers. Bill Price, Jr. won the pole on opening day and has held the points lead all year. He finished seventh in the feature, but it was enough to wrap things up. Congratulations to Steve Shultz on his second career win, and also to Josh Oswald, Ricky Ross, Jr and Steve Hoffman. It was good to see Steve back at the speedway. So, who will it be this week? Happy Birthday Richard Petey! Not for your birthday, but a combined fourth place effort, along with representing Mountain Speedway in Oswego (with a win to boot), puts you on the fast track for the first time this season. Congratulations! 43 years old, AGAIN!

Wow, what a points race in the four cylinder thrillers! Joe Sherman edges out Harry Sager by six markers! Congrats to both of you on a great season. Also, to Travis Fisher on another fine run. This week Bill Halstead nailed the fourth spot down in the race and fifth overall in the standings. Nice job, good season and welcome back to the fast track!

Congrats to all the feature & Mountain Madness winners. Also, thanks to this season's sponsor, Valley Service Equipment Repair from New Jersey. Good luck to all in the upcoming "King of the Mountain". Looks like the last set of Mountain Madness awards will be presented to the "fast timers" at the 7th annual event. Tune in a couple of weeks from now to see who is 'On the Fast Track' to success in 'Mountain Madness' at Mountain Speedway.
