Mountain Madness from August 5th
So much to tell, such little time! Let’s start off with the upcoming ‘Big Dog 100’ lapper for the modifieds on Sunday, August 21st! Chuck Schartzer, along with Gary Slusser and others have really helped with making this show a huge success for the fans and drivers. All looks well, and I personally cannot wait for the big show! Moving on to Friday’s action……
The 30-lap Balliet’s Country Corners modified feature was a great one, as a couple of Mountain stars showed their stuff from the front, to the back. Congrats to Donny Hartzell, who picked up his first victory of the season. Donny also wont the heat race and sits third in the overall standings. 19-year-old Marissa Niederauer from New York was on hand for a quick interview, and 14-year-old Ryan Preece from CT earned his first top five at the speedway, which puts him on the fast track to success at Mountain Speedway. Just remember that name for future reference!
A nice car count in Friday’s late model feature was an added bonus to the nights racing. Jackie Ziegler held off some of the big guns for a while, but Lamoreaux, even with a broken foot, ‘limped’ away with the win. Mr. Consistency (Larry Fisher) was second again. One driver (since his lat win earlier in the season) who has not been among the top runners in sometime is Jerry Brighthaupt. Jerry’s third place finish puts him on Mountain’s fast track for ’05.
Another thriller race was just that! Steve Hoffman might have won the contest, but the action up front would have made anyone lose their voice…Shultz, Bott, Price, Petey, on dancer, dasher…well, you get the point! Tough luck for Pat Verwys, who was coming off a great run from last week. Pat had motor problems but took the green for points and headed into the infield. Howie Bott is second in the standings ad has been consistent, but that second place showing puts him on the fast track in Mountain’s madness. I may write the press releases, but when a guy’s three times your size, I’d never call him a bridesmaid!
Congrats to Joe Heintzelman (aka..Joe Fisher), who picked up what he calls his first ‘real win’ in the four cylinder thrillers. Joe held off his car owner, Joe Grocholski for the exciting Joe and Joe show (thanks Donette for the phrase!) Chris Meeker, who sits 7th in the standings, finished in the fifth spot. Although missing a few shows due to an exotic work schedule, Chris maintains that points position, and Friday marks another top five for Meeker, but most importantly, put him on this week’s fast track.
Surprise! The 5th annual ‘Big Dog 100-lap Street Stock Shootout’. There was so much action, just read the press release, LOL. As a special jester, J&J Contractors (a Mountain Madness sponsor) is awarding the hard charger of the race with a Mountain Madness trophy. The hard charger from the street stock Big Dog 100 was Wall Township’s John McCormick, who picked up sixteen spots from start to finish. John, if we don’t see ya, email us your address & it’s in the mail!
Congrats to all the drivers who are ‘on the fast track’ to success at Mountain Speedway! You can pick up your awards at the photo booth after the drivers meeting. See you soon at Mountain Speedway for more Friday night thunder. Tune in next week for more ‘Mountain Madness’, brought to you by Valley Service Equipment Repair, J&J Contractors and CAD Visers, Inc.
