Mountain Madness from August 12th

Where the heck can a guy start? Driving to the track I thought “is this show gonna happen? Listen to the broadcast!” It did, and so did the ‘Big Dog 100’ qualifiers…what a show!

In the first of the two twin 25’s for the Balliet’s Country Corners modified feature it sounded like good ‘ol John Markovic had it easy…wrong! He had Smith, Defebo, Kromer and Bohn, who were just waiting for a mistake. No mistake there John, congrats! The second 25 was just as exciting. Young Ryan Preece held the point, but Donny Hartzell showed what he could do on the outside by going three wide! Did Donny have it easy? Heck no! Preece, Defebo and Smith were right there at the end. Great job guys and we’ll see you in the ‘Big Dog”. We often awarded consistency, which is only prudent (as Ross Perot would say…). Mr. Defebo not only holds the point lead, but also has consistently stayed aware of his surroundings since his misfortunes in the opening weeks. For the two top three 25-lap third place feature finishes, Brian Defebo is again on the fast track with Mountain Madness in the modifieds.

How about that Chip Wanamaker character and his first career feature win in the street stocks? Congrats to the whole C&D team, heck, you’re probably still soaking it up, rightfully so. Frantz, Danyluk and Burd had awesome runs. On the other hand, lady luck slapped a spankin’ on the point leader heading into the day, Jim Yamelski. There’s one driver who has shown much improvement throughout the season, that being Mike Schadder. Mike, who finished second in Friday’s feature, is definitely added to the fast track at Mountain Speedway.

‘It’s just a thriller” is what ran through Uncle Pete’s mind as he took to the 1/3rd mile, but by the end of the event, Petey was the thriller by picking up his second win of ’05. Tough break for the buck shots (00 & 00X of Hoffman and Price), as some contact really hurt them in the speedway’s closest points chase. There’s one guy who always seems to have three decent finishes and then one top five…what is this, handicapping? LOL…that being Josh Oswald. Josh had his best career feature finish with second and definitely deserves to be on the fast track this week in Mountain Madness.

The point leader in the four cylinder thrillers took a hit this week…into the turn two wall with a flat right front tire that is. Tough break for Joe Grocholski, but he did manage to salvage an 8th place finish! Pete Verwys ran well, as did that hard-charger, Joe Heintzelman. Jimmy White Jr. added another top five to his resume after finished fourth and giving away two 16” bikes at kids’ bike night. The driver on the fast track you ask? Well, as the kids call him, it’s the ‘ol man, Bill Verwys, Sr. Bill has a couple of feature wins this season, but has run out of the top five for a few times. With his third place finish, the father of the killer V’s throws himself onto Mountain Speedway’s fast track for ’05.

Congrats to all the drivers who are ‘on the fast track’ to success at Mountain Speedway! You can pick up your awards at the photo booth after the drivers meeting. See you soon at Mountain Speedway for more Friday night thunder. Tune in next week for more ‘Mountain Madness’, brought to you by Valley Service Equipment Repair, J&J Contractors and CAD Visers, Inc.
