Mountain Madness from August 26th

Well, here we are, down to the last Friday night show of the ’05 season! What’s in store for next year you ask? LOL, beats me! Guess we have to all stop, look and listen.

Mod counts were low this past week. My guess is a huge purse, along with saying good-bye to Tioga. The place was great and will be missed for sure!

Let’s pick things up with the Balliet’s Country Corners modifieds. We all saw Brian Defebo extend his point lead over Donny Hartzell enroot to his seventh feature win of the season…congrats! Tim Santee had another strong run, along with Steven Reed. One driver who has really come along in the recent weeks finished fourth. Who’ that you ask? Mike Bohn (in case you’re wondering, it’s pronounced ‘bone’). Great run Mike & welcome to the fast track!

A caution-free late model race surprised many of us (including myself) Friday evening. The racing was excellent and a young rookie by the name of Rodriguez stole the gold, beating out the rest of the top veterans. Larry Fisher looks like he’ll ride away with the division title but you know what they say: ‘Anything can happen in racing’. Jason Makarewicz’s sixth place finish may not be a career highlight, but based off his recent stretch of bad luck I bet he and the team are thrilled with it. It’s not a win, but ya still get the trophy. Welcome back to the fast track Jason.

Another caution free race? You’re kiddin’ me! Yessir, two divisions in one week go caution-free! Congrats to all the street stock drivers. Heck, you’re all on the fast track to success at Mountain, LOL. Well, let’s not get carried away. Brad Kline drove off to his 5th win of the season. At mid-season Kline had his ups and downs for sure, but lately the kid has been coming on strong. Will he win his third straight crown, or will Jim Yamelski or Scott Meckes steal the glory? Only time will tell and we’re running out of time! Congrats to Brad Barbush for being on the fast track. Brad’s still looking for that first win of the season, but a slew of seconds ain’t half bad. Congrats!

Well, what can I say about the four cylinder thrillers? LOL, who officially won anyway? Well, the field was ‘frozen’ and tech is/was pending for just about everyone. Not to go into much detail, but we were told that dominant cars will be ‘tuned down’, more or less. Does this stop the madness?….Nope! Pete Verwys, Joe Heintzelman and Joe Grocholski put on one heck of a show up front. You guys all do your homework! One driver who has had off and on success ended up finishing fourth. Who? Well, that’s Scott Adams. Scott, your 4th place effort puts you on the fast track in the four-cylinder division, congratulations! Here’s a little piece of history for ya: Speaking of the Adams family, Friday marked the very first time a female driver took the green flag for a four cylinder thriller feature. Congrats to Jen Adams for being the first!

Hey, don’t forget…the big wheel races are back in action on Sunday, September 11th! Be there early, as they’ll start right after warm-ups.

Congrats to all the drivers who are ‘on the fast track’ to success at Mountain Speedway! You can pick up your awards at the photo booth after the drivers meeting. See you soon at Mountain Speedway for more asphalt racing at its finest. Tune in next week for more ‘Mountain Madness’, brought to you by Valley Service Equipment Repair, J&J Contractors and CAD Visers, Inc
