Week #10 of Mountain Madness from July 1st
Well, here we go, another week in the books. In my opinion, the car counts were lacking, but that didn't stop the drivers from entertaining the fans. Hey, we even got to see some fireworks off the track too. Which reminds me, Happy July 4 th to everyone. Many times we take the freedom we have for granted, but the July 4 th celebrations remind us of how lucky we are to do what we love to do!
So, on with the show... Not a whole lot of late models Friday. Was it because of threatening storms, or just the fact that many are repairing their rides from two weeks ago? Guess we'll never know. Joe Hoffman did a great job holding off Larry Fisher enroot to his second win of the season. Hoffman joked that he was disappointed with his season, but hey, the guy sits second in the standings! One driver who has ran well all year, but always seems to find trouble is Mike Rodriguez, Jr. This week he didn't overdrive the car and stayed patient throughout the feature, showing that his third place finish puts him right on the fast track to a comeback for the second half of the season.
On to the street stocks…How about Paul Frantz? Man, it was great to see him pick up win #1 of the season, especially after the last few weeks he had. Wanamaker and Meckes also had strong runs, and Kline ran back up through the pack in a hurry for another top five. As we all know, the key to the point's race is consistency. Sure, wins come along, but top fives get it done. That leads us to the current division point leader, Jim Yamelski. For his second place finish, and at for the moment, Mr. Consistency, Jim picks up his second Mountain Madness ‘fast track' award of the season.
The four cylinder thrillers have put on one heck of a show all season long. This week wasn't any different. Chris Walk had another strong run, and it was tough seeing Joe Heintzelman take the lick he did. After all, he came from the back of the pack three times! Of course, nice runs by the ‘killer V's' (Verwys), and Meeker had another strong run. But, there's that driver who struggled so far this season, only having one top five, which came opening day. That's Justin Nesbitt. For his second top five of '05, this put him on the fast track to success at Mountain Speedway! One quick note: Justin also crossed the finish line third out of 76 cars in Sunday's NEETS race, but was later DQ'ed.
Well, the thriller show was full of buckshot up front again. What do I mean? A pair of double zeros. Nice run by Steve Hoffman, as he picked up what he called his first ‘real win'. Hey, the first was a win too! Richard Petey with a third place finish took over the point lead, and Jeff Owler finished a strong fourth. Dr. Destruction grabbed fifth, and hangs on to second in the standings. The last three weeks, Josh Oswald had no power steering and still had semi-decent runs. This week, the power steering worked great! However, the motor is another story. Despite his problems, Josh managed to finish sixth on seven cylinders. So, do seven cylinders put Oswald on the fast track? Hahaha, let's just call this one Mountain Madness!
One quick note, I have been getting some great laughs over the Mac Brothers Racing play-by-play, written weekly by K-Mac. If you want some great laughs, check it out at www.macbrothersracing.com
