Mountain Madness from July 29th
Officially Saturday morning here at the Ostrowski household and the racing continues…that is racing to beat the clock for more upcoming Mountain Speedway festivities today and Sunday. First off, I would like to thank Chris Zacharias for announcing the SST mod race. Chris, you were rattling off stats, divers, numbers and possibly even birthdays, LOL…I lost track after lap five. Great job, thank you!
Speaking of the SST mods, what a show! Man, the battle for the lead between Brittain and Paules was absolutely incredible over the last 25 laps. It was tough seeing the famed #61 Richie Evans look-a-like, driven by Zane Ziener head into the pits, but as they say, that’s racin’. Also, congrats to ‘Pistol’ Pete Brittain on a spectacular win! Typically, we wouldn’t give out a Mountain Madness award for a touring division, but we all know that many of these drivers will be back on August 21st for the ‘Big Dog 100’. Judging by his starting spot (14th), Earl Paules is definitely on the fast track at Mountain Speedway, as he is the official ‘hard charger’ for the SST’s.
The street stocks took the stage for their feature, aka, the Street Stock Shootout qualifier. What a race…almost caution-free! Danyluk did a great job, as well did the front-runners in the standings. Frantz and Barbush also had strong runs, and it was good to see Donny Hartzell back out in that #8. Donny was also the hard charger of the race. Barry Gommer has had a rough start after taking over his ride a few months ago, but his second place effort puts him on the fast track to success in the street stocks at Mountain.
Bill Price, Jr. drove off to his sixth feature win of ’05, while Steve Shultz picked up his best feature finish of the season, finishing second. Pat Verwys continues to get stronger with the ‘big thrillers’ and some just can’t overcome the bad luck they’ve been experiencing. Here’s another consistency award…let’s hear it for Richard Petey. Petey has one lone win, which happened on opening day, yet he sits atop the thriller standings. Even though he spun in the feature, Petey rebounded to finish fifth. Consistency is key when fighting a disease called Mountain Madness. Congrats!
A tough break for Chris Walk and Nick Adams in the four cylinder thrillers, along with his second feature win of the season helped Joe Grocholski’s point lead grow. I was impressed that Joe donated all his winnings to the children’s bike give-a-ways at the track. Congrats on the win Joe, added in with it: a touch of class…thank you! Joe Heintzelman finished second to Grocholski with another great run and Jimmy White, Jr. gets another top five. The guy who started off the season with a bang & then faded is now back. Dale Shoemaker finished fourth, but at many points throughout the race, was a contender. For his fourth place effort, rebounding from a few previous races, Shoemaker is back on the fast track at the speedway!
Congrats to all the drivers who are ‘on the fast track’ to success at Mountain Speedway! You can pick up your awards at the photo booth after the drivers meeting. See you soon at Mountain Speedway for more Friday night thunder. Tune in next week for more ‘Mountain Madness’, brought to you by Valley Service Equipment Repair, J&J Contractors and CAD Visers, Inc.
