Mountain Madness from Friday, June 10th.
Already! Week #7 is in the books at Mountain Speedway.
I just wanna ramble off a few things. Ya know, it's late (early..4:30 AM), kid's double-header this morning, geez!
All right, on with it. Whatta night for Friday night racing, as you witnessed some of the best racing at Mountain so far this season. It was unfortunate that the late model feature was delayed, but Mountain, in the past, has been to the court room because of running past midnight. I would hate to see another racetrack fall victim to politics.we apologize for the circumstances and inconvience to all the drivers and/or fans who were upset. Nuff said!
When the Balliet's Country Corners modifieds took to the asphalt, I was curious to see what that 'injured' Beers could do. Well, he showed me! Did you see that show between him, Hanbury & Defebo, not to mention Dave Pecko. Ya know, it wasn't long ago that the former Whelen Modified ROY was without a ride. He told me a few weeks back that he was low on funding, but wanted to 'throw something together' to get back in racing.nice pitch Dave! After all of the traffic problems Friday, my hat's off also to Jim Long Jr from Staten Island, NY. Jim is the quiet mouse in the modified points chase, he sits in the lead and is consistently in the top ten weekly. Although 7 th for Jim isn't a win, consistency is the key to the championship chase.
Let's hear it for Donny Hartzell's 6 th place feature finish. The second-year modified ace has had quite a bit of bad luck in the early weeks of racing at Mountain. However, in recent weeks, Hartzell and his team turned things around, and proved with their efforts on Friday that they can be competitive in a star-studded field. Welcome to the fast track Donny!
Jim Yamelski has shown to us in the street stock feature why he's the current point leader. It's not always about winning, but man, that's the icing right there. Jim rattled off win #2 of the season, beating out names such as Frantz, Babula, Danyluk, Ahner and Kline. Well, originally the driver on the fast track was Geary Rinehamer, but I was told late Sunday that late model standout, Barry Gommer was in the car.
That means that we jump into applauding Eric Danyluk for his third place run. Earlier in the season, Eric has been up front, but the 'luk' hasn't been in his favor. Danyluk's run Friday is a prime example that this driver is on the fast track at Mountain Speedway.
If anyone knew Tom Wharton Jr. like Shaun Burd, they would have been racing in his memorial race Friday. Shaun admitted that he scurried over the past few weeks, trying to put a competitive piece together for this special event. An event so special to Shaun and others, that their words in victory lane can't describe it. Tom Jr. will be remembered always, and forever in our hearts.
Shaun, along with Bill Price, Jr. knocked out the twin 15 wins in the thrillers. Any surprise? After all, Price won 4 out of the last 5 thriller features. Burd on the other hand, now has two top twos (is that a word?) in as many starts. One driver who has had decent runs, without the finishes is Steve Shultz. Steve started both races Friday, having finishes of 4 th and 6 th . For your overall finish of 4 th , you're showing the Mountain Speedway fans that moving to the fast track was the right choice..congrats!
Now, as we all know, all of a sudden these things are in the program?? (thanks Joan, LOL). It would only be right that a late model driver is also recognized for their efforts, even though the feature was postponed.any guesses? The result may surprise you.
Since the late model show was postponed, we'll pick two drivers nex wek for the division.
Again, we have to thank our sponsors for weekly Mountain Madness. It's great to be recognized, but without sponsors for the awards, you'll never remember!
Congrats to all the drivers who are 'on the fast track' to success at Mountain Speedway! You can pick up your awards at the photo booth after the drivers meeting. See you soon for more Friday night thunder. Tune in next week for more 'Mountain Madness', brought to you by Valley Service, J&J Contractors and CAD Visers, Inc.
